Artxanda Tunnels

Full safety in the Artxanda Tunnels is our fundamental aim.

Together with environmental protection, the main objective pursued during the construction and commissioning of the Artxanda Tunnels is full safety.

The tunnels are equipped with information, communication, surveillance, safety, and control facilities. All systems are managed from the Control Centre located in the dedicated building in the toll area.

The EuroTAP project has assessed 49 tunnels in 14 European countries, including eight in Spain, and has awarded the Artxanda Tunnels the highest safety rating.

Objectives

  • To ensure the safety of tunnel users and of the tunnel operator's own staff.
  • To facilitate the use of the tunnels under optimum environmental and traffic conditions.
  • To integrate traffic conditions in the tunnels with the surrounding traffic conditions.
  • To facilitate maintenance work of the installations, both preventive and corrective.
