Interbiak undertakes various tasks in accordance with the orders given by the Bizkaia Provincial Council

Our infrastructures

Interbiak Bizkaia, S.A. (M.P.) manages, on behalf of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, the road infrastructures owned by the province, subject to tolls. These include the management and operation of the AP-8 motorway between Galdakao and the border with Gipuzkoa and the operation of the Southern Metropolitan Bypass (VSM) and the Artxanda Tunnels by imposing a charge.

Pay-per-use (PPU) infrastructures

The new pay-as-you-go system for Bizkaia seeks to guarantee the optimum conditions of the road network for which it will be introduced, through more efficient and balanced management, guaranteeing sufficient investment for the upkeep, maintenance, and operation of the network. This model also brings Bizkaia into line with the decarbonisation guidelines and objectives established by the EU, encouraging large lorries over 3.5 tonnes to reduce CO2 emissions and improving road safety by reducing accidents.

In a first phase, pay-per-use for heavy goods vehicles will come into force from January 2023 on the N-240 and the BI-625, after having received the approval of the European Commission and the approval of Provincial Regulation 7/2022 of 20 July by the General Assembly of Bizkaia.
